The Trobades & Premis Mediterranis Albert Camus is an annual festival that hosts a series of events, performances and talks across Menorca. Centered on the figure of Albert Camus—an international symbol of rebellion, justice and humanism—the festival has welcomed over 120 speakers from 24 countries since 2017.
Under the theme ‘Let’s Play to Wonder’ the weekend program featured dialogues, concerts, screenings, and even a puppet show. This edition welcomed sixteen speakers—mainly prominent women from the worlds of art, literature, and film—including Goya-winning filmmaker Paula Ortiz, acclaimed photographer and Magnum Photos president Cristina de Middel, New York Times cartoonist Patrick Chappatte, puppeteer Alex Mihailovski, journalist Edwy Plenel, and writer Kaouther Adimi.
Acclaimed Argentine author and journalist Leila Guerriero—known for her award-winning novel ‘La llamada’ and her long-standing career in journalism—delivered the keynote address to open this year’s edition.
Guerriero spoke at our art center of the Illa del Rei, where she presented the inaugural address titled ‘Playing with Foliage and Light’—a nod to this year’s guiding theme: ‘Let’s Play to Wonder.’ Following the keynote, the vocal duo Tarta Relena, formed by Marta Torrella and Helena Ros, performed selections from their album ‘És Pregunta,’ a project that experiments with a cappella vocal traditions and sonic textures drawn from diverse musical styles. Guests at the opening also enjoyed an exclusive preview of the new exhibition ‘Vibrant. Matter’ by artist Mika Rottenberg, alongside the Education Lab.

On Saturday 10 May and Sunday 11 May, the program continued at the Albert Camus Hall in Sant Lluís, with morning and afternoon sessions featuring talks, dialogues, live music, and even a puppet show. This annual gathering of ideas—guided by Albert Camus as beacon for imagining a more humane present—brought together sixteen contemporary creators, artists, philosophers, writers, and journalists. Their voices and insights helped shape a space for shared reflection and coexistence, grounded in mutual understanding, the respect it fosters, and a commitment to social justice.
Among this year’s featured participants are filmmaker Paula Ortiz, director of La virgen roja, which won two Goya Awards in its most recent edition; Cristina de Middel, photographer and president of the renowned Magnum Photos agency; writers Jorge Carrión and Sir Ben Okri; Swiss-Lebanese New York Times cartoonist Patrick Chappatte; French journalist Edwy Plenel (Mediapart); Algerian author Kaouther Adimi, whose work has been translated into Catalan; flamenco dancer Yinka Esi Graves; and Lebanese illustrator Lena Merhej.
